History
1887 saw the first races ever to be held in the Buchan area. On the first program the club proved how liberal they were by staging one-mile hurdle races for ladies only. The ten-event program also included two open hurdle races, a ladies' flat race and a trotting race.
In 1947 the first meeting was held on the picturesque racecourse at Canni Creek near Lakes Entrance that is home to the Buchan & Gelantipy Racing Club and still hosts today's race meetings.
The process of life is a little bit slower in the country and race organisers have managed to provide top entertainment for 117 years without electricity, but 2005 saw the club finally light up thanks to local government support. The course has also benefitted from a State Government grant that has provided a full running rail.
